The LAJ Foundation's "LAAJ" Concept initiates a new era for Nightlife and Charity

Last Friday July 29, The LAJ Foundation hosted its first charity fund-raiser - "The LAAJ."  The venue, Club India (38 Lady Musgrave Road), most notably recognized for staging weddings, and Indian cultural events was transformed into an edifice that created a uniquely hybrid "Lounge - Dinner Party" atmosphere. The sounds of electro and house music filled the venue as patrons from across Kingston came in with their hands full of beverages and books - the revolutionary concept of the party.

The idea was two-fold:
1. To raise money for educational scholarships
2. To collect educational packages to distribute to inner-cty students.

The result.
A.1. Total  funds raised for scholarships at this date = $73,500

B. 1. Collection of over 250 CXC + CAPE textbooks
     2. Over 100 Exercise Books
     3. More than 300 Pencils, and many other stationary items.

Why did we call the event "The LAAJ"

The LAAJ, is a derivation of the "LAJ" ( LAJ Foundation), which in the Sindhi language means simple or modest. The name was strategically chosen to convey how easy it can be to give back to the community. The corporate world took well to the idea, and even though we only had 9 days from the inception of the idea to the actual staging of the event, we were able to garner the support of :

1. Red Stripe
2. Sagicor
3. Bullet Energy Drinks
4. Flawless Productions
5. Royale Tech
6. JN Patel & Company
7. ASAP Signs (Ocho Rios)

We are grateful for the help we have received from these corporate entities, and also to the individuals that took the time to assist with the planning and executing of the event. We would like to thank:

1. Tina Patel
2. Nisha & Jeena Dansingani
3. Kimberly Woolery
4. Kimberly Ho
5. Shikha Lachmandas
6. Julie Ramchandani
7. Simon "Sno" Thompson
8. Rajesh Sujanani
9.. Kwame Blake
10. Dinesh Chatani
11. Mahesh Khemlani
12. Clinton Mcbean

We are still accepting donations both in kind and monetary until Wednesday August 3rd. The official handing over of our collections will take place on Thursday of this week. If anyone is interested in donating items, please contact me at kpatel1988@gmail.com.

In addition,we are hoping to stage another event this semester at some point in NYC ( where we will be operating ) and again during the winter break here in Kingston. If anyone is interested in helping out - please contact me at the email me above.

Here are a few pictures that we took:
